2% is Not Enough, Increasing the Black Male Teacher Retention Rate
The Fellowship, BMEC is a dedicated organization with the ambitious goal of tripling the number of highly-effective black male teachers in Philadelphia public schools to 1,000 by 2025. Through a myriad of programs, including an annual conference, career fair, summer program, and a membership alliance, BMEC addresses the stark reality: only 2% of teachers are black and male, a number that is insufficient.
Role: Brand Manager, Communications Strategist, and Creative Strategist for The Fellowship, BMEC.
Target Audience: Black male educators and their supporters. This includes school and district leaders, superintendents, students, education nonprofit leaders, higher education administrators, education advocates, parents, community members, activists, professors, mentors, after-school program staff, researchers, and aspiring teachers.
Responsibilities:
Led the branding and design for the annual conference.
Built and managed a creative team of contractors.
Secured press coverage in both local and national media outlets.
Orchestrated experiential marketing opportunities.
Managed sponsorship and partnership engagements.
Outcomes:
Successfully attracted over 1,000 attendees to the event.
Secured sponsorships from 15+ brands and organizations.
Gained media coverage in prominent outlets like Black Enterprise, EdPost, The Grio, and more.
Pioneered the first benefit concert for BMEC’s yearly conference.
Hosted esteemed speakers such as Dr.Yusuf Salaam, Tenicka Boyd, John B. King Jr., Marc Lamont Hill, Clint Smith, Jamira Burley, Ericka Pittman, and many others.
